Sports are organized competitive games and physical exercises. These satisfy the human need for competition, physical exercise and play. This is perhaps the most obvious difference between leisure, recreation or sports. As a medium for competition, sports may develop our sense of achievement and confidence.

In many ways, disabled people have been privileged to enjoy the benefits of contact sports since the first contact sport was introduced. With advancements in medicine, the development of a wide variety of equipment facilitates the participation in sports. This equipment also enables the player to improve his own personal physical fitness. One can use such equipment for conditioning and improving personal performance in a sport. This has made sports an important part of the physical fitness routine.

However, the development of a sport does not happen overnight. It requires a lot of hard work, dedication, patience and perseverance. It takes time to develop our skills in a particular sport. Our physical structure and flexibility are different from one another. Developing the mind sports enables us to increase our personal fitness.

There are several professional governing bodies for different sports. Each governing body has different criteria for selection of players. Therefore, there are variations in the quality and level of players. The selection of players for mind sports competitions differ from governing bodies to governing bodies. In fact, there are governing bodies that conduct sports competitions on a national level. Some of these competitions include mental challenges, skill testing, agility and speed, as well as mind-body integration.

Many non-profit organizations conduct sports competitions for the purpose of physical fitness. In association football, for instance, the London Wheelchair Sports Ambassadors will organize sports events for people with physical limitations. Several other non-profit organizations also conduct sports competitions. They include basketball games, bowling competitions, and track games, among others.

Another type of popular sports is beach volleyball. Beach volleyball was invented by Beach Volleyball Association (BSOA), a non-profit association dedicated to introducing a sporting activity for people with physical conditions. BSA was formed in 1985 in order to organize a game between the United States and Great Britain. It is played in public parks. BSA began as a physical rehabilitation and fitness association, but it quickly evolved into a versatile sports event that incorporated the art of volleyball into its curriculum. BSAA is currently looking for more countries to join the association.
